Here's another free tip: Thumbtack. It's an online referral directory where employers connect with freelancers or other professionals for work they need done. I use it for my video production business. Just recently, I was hired by a former professional NFL quarterback to video tape a conference. That lead came via Thumbtack and may turn in to ongoing work!
Thumbtack notifies you that someone is looking for your local services. You have the option of submitting a bid for a small set fee or for a % of the whole project. With the football project, I paid $4.00 via PayPal and earned nearly $300.00 for the job. I'll take those numbers any day! That Thumbtack logo above is one of the tools they offer members to place on websites and blogs to invite people to check out their information page or search for other services. It's a handy resource for anyone who needs to find a pro. Signing up is free and easy and you'll get notified of people looking for services you provide in your area. As a bonus, these directory sites can help to raise your online presence because of their popularity. They link to your website! Promote yourself with tools like Craigslist & Thumbtack! _ Authors submitting stories to the February 3, 2012 challenge of New/Whisper/Spring have the option to have their stories included in the first Clever Fiction Writers Anthology: Whispered Beginnings. The theme of stories included should be centered around Relationships/Romance using the challenge prompt of New/Whisper/Spring.
The book is slated for Spring Release through TreasureLine Publishing, to be released in both paperback and ebook formats, sold on Amazon.com, Smashwords.com, and other venues which may include, but are not limited to, the websites/blogs of each author. We want to say upfront that, even though the word Romance is used, we will not accept erotica or “pink” material. It needs to fit the theme but meet the approval of readers from many walks. Editor Linda Boulanger ultimately holds the veto stamp for inclusion, and if she is in doubt, you’ll be hearing from her! Likewise, if you have any questions, you may direct them to her at [email protected] using the subject of Clever Fiction Anthology (all story submissions should still be sent per the submission page: http://www.cleverfiction.com/submit-stories.html). One other rule: although your story can use something connected to another story, each story MUST be a complete and standalone story to be included. Not cliff hangers or something that says "buy my book to read the rest" at the end. You will have the option to have your name, short bio, and a link to your site at either the end of your story or at the end of the book, editors choice and yet undetermined placement. Here's what's in it for you: As much as we’d all love to see it happen, there will not be a splitting of the royalties between all authors included. That would be a publisher’s nightmare. What you do get, however is the honor of being able to say: “Look! My story is included!!! I’m a published author with a reputable publishing house and MY STORY is on Amazon!!!!!!!” (did you feel the excitement there?). There’s a lot of work that will go into editing, arranging, formatting, cover design, marketing, etc. that a publisher hopes will be recouped by royalties from book sales. HOWEVER, you do have the option to buy copies of the paperback book at author cost to sell on your own, whether that be on your blog/website, from the trunk of your car, at book signings, etc. While Amazon discourages selling them below the price listed on Amazon, you may offer them for that price plus a discount, or minus shipping, or however you desire to word it. Selling paperbacks this way allows you to earn the royalties between what you paid and what you sell them for. And we highly recommend looking into becoming an Amazon Associate as well as an affiliate on Smashwords so that you may link to the book on their sites and get a bit of pocket change every time someone uses that link to buy! More information coming soon, however, feel free to comment here or send Linda at TreasureLine an email if you have additional questions or comments. TreasureLine, btw, always works with a non-exclusive agreement: you have the right to publish your story elsewhere as desired, and you ALWAYS maintain ALL rights to your own work. Happy Writing! Enjoy the challenge (which we also want to remind you has been increased to up to 2,000 words and there is a two week deadline instead of one.) |
