Rodney Jordan came home from work to find his wife, Renee, in a pool of her own blood. She was unconscious, unresponsive, and lying on the kitchen floor. She had been stabbed five times and the house had been burglarized. Rodney picked up the phone and called 911.
Rodney Jordan had been at the emergency room for many hours now and had no idea what was going on with his wife beyond the double doors, except that people kept running in and out and had no time to stop and talk. Suddenly he heard “Mr. Jordan! Mr. Rodney Jordan! Rodney Jordan?” He stood up and slowly walked over to the Doctor calling his name. “I’m Rodney Jordan, I’ve been waiting for hours, do you have some news?” He slowed his walk, not liking the look on Doctors Michael’s face. There was no way to be prepared for what came next.
In the most unfeeling and uncaring voice Doctor Michael’s said “Mr. Jordan, I’m Doctor Michael’s. Your wife did not make it” and he walked away, never making any eye contact or looking up from his notes or offering any condolences. Mr. Jordan’s feet went out from under him and he started to sob. As quickly as Doctor Michael’s had blurted out the bad news, he handed the chart to a student nurse, and said “mark deceased and have victim Renee Jordan moved to the morgue” and without a second thought, walked away.
Deep inside, Dr. Michael’s hated this part of the job, and that was why he was so quick and unemotional when he gave this kind of news. He could hear the man sobbing and quickened his pace. He just wanted to get home and see his wife, Kim.
Rodney stood up and was oblivious to anything around him. He didn’t believe for one second Dr. Michael’s cared about his wife dying, or how much pain Rodney was feeling. He got angry. He would have to make the Doctor care. Revenge. Revenge should and would be taken. Not on the cold-hearted Doctor, no – that would be to easy, but on the Doctors wife, Kim. Make him hurt and show him how it feels to lose someone you love with all your heart. It was the only way to make him understand and feel, truly feel what Rodney was going through. Rodney knew what he had to do. Take Kim away from Dr. Michael’s, just like Renee had been taken from him.
After following Doctor Michael’s home, Rodney sat hiding in the bushes behind two matching, shiny, beautiful and very expensive BMW’s. He had been there for hours, his anger increasing with every moment of happiness he witnessed while spying through the windows. With every moment, the need for revenge against this Doctor, the need to make him suffer became more and more necessary.
From the BMW’s and bushes he hid behind he saw a huge, beautiful house that was on a large lot of rolling green grass. The house was surrounded by trees and was a two story castle made of logs and gigantic glass walls. Soft and inviting light made it easy to see in, easy to watch.
Doctor Michael’s sat in his office leaning back with his feet on the desk doing exactly what he shouldn’t be doing to unwind, smoking a cigar. But it had been a rough day. From the kitchen he heard his wife Kim shouted, “Put out that cigar and come eat dinner”.
He did as he was told, arguing with his wife was a bigger challenge then anything he would ever face at work. He also stopped by the restroom and used some mouthwash and sprayed on some cologne.
His wife was in the kitchen, chopping a tomato. She wore a soft pink cashmere dress, cut low in the back. He came up behind her, wrapped his arms around her and kissed her on the neck. She let out a little giggle as Goosebumps rose up on her arms. “I’m making your favorite, Caprese Salad, although I shouldn’t share since you’ve been smoking” she said. “Don’t give me a hard time please, I’ve had a very tough day” as he poured himself a glass of wine, even though he was on emergency on-call. One glass wouldn’t hurt. “No excuses!” she joked, “However, I might be willing to forgive you if you pour me a glass too”.
Just as he began to pour, his pager went off and his wife stopped smiling “Please tell me you’re not on call tonight” she said. “I’m sorry”, he simply said, “part of the job”, and he handed her the wine and out the door he went to the Emergency Room he worked at.
As soon as the Doctor Michael’s left, Rodney came in through a back door and grabbed a linen napkin off the table, soaked it in Ether and started walking quietly towards the kitchen. Wrapping his arms around her from behind, she at first smiled thinking it was her husband and the call had been canceled, and then as the linen napkin went over her nose, she tried to scream and fight her way out, but passed out. Rodney proceeded with his plan; he stabbed her five times and killed the Doctors wife, leaving her in a pool of blood. Rodney left his and his wife’s wedding rings on the counter with a note that simply said, ““Hello Dr. Michaels, I’m Rodney Jordan. I am sorry; your wife did not make it”. Have her file marked ‘deceased’ and have her moved to the morgue. The End.
