By Melissa Stroud (Dancing ~ Rain ~ Deception)
The deception stunned her as if she'd been slapped across the face. Meg bit her lip and tried to will her eyes to stop from tearing.
"Well, I guess we're done here, then," she said brusquely as she turned and walked away. She barely made it out the door before the tears started to fall. She half-heartedly jogged across the parking lot, just making it to her car as it began to rain.
Laughing bitterly, she stopped by her car door and yelled "PERFECT TIMING!" as she shook her head in exasperation.
Meg opened the door and threw her purse into the passenger seat. She practically dove into the safe confines of her car, sinking into the buttery leather. She hurriedly wiped at her eyes with a tissue and once again willed herself to stop crying. Just then, a rapid knock at the window startled her and caused her to throw the tissue up in surprise.
She warily turned her eyes to the window to see Ryan standing there, gesturing for her to roll down the window. Barely lowering it an inch, she muttered, "What now?"
"I.... just wanted you to know I'm sorry. I shouldn't have..." Ryan trailed off as Meg held up her hand to stop him.
"Forget it. It's over and done with and I don't want to hear your excuses," she said. "And now," she said, sitting up straight and looking forward, "I'm going dancing."
With that, she threw her car into drive and peeled out, leaving the cheating bastard in her muddy dust.
